LG Washing Machine UE Error: Meaning and Fix

Quick answer

UE is LG's unbalanced load error. The clothes are bunched on one side, the load is too big or too small, or the machine is not level. Spread the clothes out, use the right course for bulky items and level the machine.

Common causes

  • Clothes bunched on one side of the drum
  • Load too small, too large, or one heavy item like a blanket or rug
  • Laundry net washed alone or overfilled
  • Machine not level, or standing on a sloped or slippery floor

Fix it step by step

  1. Pause the cycle, spread the clothes evenly around the drum and start the spin again.
  2. Fill the drum only to about two-thirds. Add a few items if the load is very small.
  3. Wash heavy items one at a time on the Duvet, Bedding or Blanket course. LG advises against machine-washing rugs, foot mats, electric blankets and stuffed toys.
  4. Use laundry nets only two-thirds full and wash them with other clothes, not alone.
  5. Check the machine is level. Adjust the legs with the spanner that came with it.

Still showing UE?

  • On top load models LG says the machine may try up to two balancing turns, adding about 10 minutes. If UE keeps coming, spread the clothes and restart the spin.
  • Some noise with laundry nets or duvets can be normal, LG says.

Questions people ask

Is UE serious?

LG treats UE as a load problem. Spread the laundry, use the right course for bulky items and make sure the machine is level.

Why does UE come when I wash one blanket?

LG advises washing one duvet at a time on the Duvet, Bedding or Blanket course. On top load models, press it fully under water once the tub fills.

UE on a front loader versus a top loader?

Both mean an unbalanced load. LG's advice differs a little: front loaders need the right course for bulky items, top loaders need the blanket folded and pushed under water.
